The Coffee House Writers Group started in 2009 when founder Christine Marie Bryant decided she wanted to form a community for writers. While there were several others in the area, Christine saw the need for a open critique platform that would welcome writers of all skill-levels and genres. After attending several other critique groups and doing extensive research on what would be the most helpful to writers, she started CHWG as a Meetup group on December 31, 2009.

Our mission is to support writers, both through education and by creating a supportive community of peers. Membership in CHWG is always free and we never charge for meetings or workshops.

In early 2012, a committee was formed to take the CHWG to the next level. We started monthly workshops on topics that interest our members and partnered with various organizations like the Ontario public Library and San Dimas Senior Center to provide outreach to the local community.

2013 April saw the CHWG’s first time participating in the LA Times Festival of Books.

2014 saw that growth continue with the formation of new chapters in Fullerton, CA and Long Beach, CA.

We have hundreds of members throughout California and are a recognized name among writers. Our Facebook virtual fan page has over 500 members and more than 2000 likes throughout the world and several of our writers have been published, both traditionally and through self-publishing.

Our five CHWG chapters located in San Dimas, Claremont, Fullerton, Long Beach, and Anaheim. We have weekly critique groups, monthly workshops, and a script writers group in Long Beach. Come join us at one or more of these events soon!
